Adrienne  > Pets > Sombra
This little sweetie was saved during a torrential downpour Memorial Day weekend 2005 in the back alley. She was 6 weeks old. I fostered her to about 5 months old and we found her a forever home through savemoreanimals.org.

Adrienne > On the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, we had an unseasonable torrential downpour in Tucson - even worse than some monsoon rains! That night, I heard a cat meowing and meowing and meowing. Finally I went outside to see and a little black kitten romped away from me in the back alley between condos...jumping in and out of puddles, half drowned, and very unhappy. Enlisting the aid of Paulette and Lizzy next door, we tried to catch her but couldn't. An hour later I went back out to see if it was still around and I found it in a vacant backyard, all huddled in weeds, shivering, and looking very sad. So, I took it in, washed her in warm water, cuddled her in a warm towel, and fed her Gerber Lamb baby food.
Adrienne > She quickly recovered after eating and warming up and promptly fell asleep with a full tummy. At 6 weeks being feral with the colony outside, she temporarily forgot she hated humans and didn't hiss once.
Adrienne > She *really* passed out!
Adrienne > So - the next day I took her to the Humane Society only to learn THAT THEY EUTHANIZE!!!! The woman told me that they have too many kittens and black ones are the last to get adopted, and they keep them 3 weeks. WHAT?!?!? However, I had told her she bit my finger, which was a total accident by the kitten...she was licking food off my finger as she didn't like the spoon. That little bit of info though, prompted the woman TO NOT GIVE HER BACK and tell me she was going to Pima Animal Care to be tested for rabies..which...they kill the kitten to do. NO F'ING WAY! So instead, I made frantic phonecalls and agreed to pay the holding fee of $70 for 10 days, then go get her. Amazingly, she made it through the ordeal...tough little kitten! She was however, put in a cage with an adult cat who bit her...so stupid! I filed a report. Apparently they were overcrowded. I was very angered, but she came out ok. Now we just wait til she can be tested for other things before she meets Sasha and Chloe. This is her little nook in the bathroom...all cuddled up and nervous in the big fluffy towel. She did start to hiss at me...this is going to take patience!

Adrienne > What have you done to me? This is after her "citrus shampoo bath" to help get rid of fleas before the Revolution med is put on her. She came back to me from PAC with fleas! GAH!

Adrienne > Whoop! Where am I?

Adrienne > Aaawwww....Sombra is making friends with the teddy bear. The bear is a bit bigger than her, but, she plays with it like a fellow kitten! Teddy "moves" around and play tackles her and she boxes and tackles back. This morning I found her in the blue cozy with the bear, instead of in her usual spot. I think he keeps her company, just like her litter mates used to. Awwwwww.....

Adrienne > So far, this is her best portrait. She has very pretty sea foam green eyes that seemed to come out well in this pic. She still hasn't learned how to drink water properly, so I keep watering down her wet food and giving her water each day with a medication syringe.

Adrienne > Sombra has taken to jumping up and clinging to me, irregardless if I am wearing pants or not. My legs are shredded. She DOES NOT like being left alone, but I can't spend all day sitting on the tile with her.
