Adrienne  > Travel > Washington National Zoo
Early January 2006
This year the AAS meeting was in Washington, D.C. and was located within blocks of the Washington National Zoo. I took the opportunity to wander up there each morning to try to see the 6 month old baby panda! On my last day I finally saw him. Enjoy my zoo pictures!

Sea anemone
These tanks were fun to watch...all the tendrils waving about. The larger version of this pic is cool...click to enlarge.

My 2nd favorite part of the zoo trip (2nd to the pandas). This cuttlefish was extraordinary! I even had one of the caretakers out there laughing! It would follow the red and green lights on my camera. They communicate with stripes and flashes of colors across their back, and boy, it was trying to tell me something!

The cuttlefish following me. If I had card space, I would have done video.

These were slightly larger than a golfball and were an experimental exhibit. It was like they had LED Christmas lights running on them, really cool.
